Predator Free BOP is a community led, backyard trapping initiative that aims to bring native birds back to our suburbs and help make NZ predator free by 2050.

The biggest threat to our native birds are the rats who have taken over our native bush and urban areas. With one rat likely to kill up to 50 birds in its lifetime we need your help to get rid of rats and give our native species a fighting chance.

Our goalaaaaaaaa:a

Our goal is to get a backyard trap into one in five houses in suburban Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty. That would mean there’s around 12,000 traps which is how many it will take to turn the table on pests.

How to get involved:

With the help of our sponsors, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Envirohub, NZ Landcare Trust and Bay Conservation Alliance. We’re giving away traps to those living on the front line in Matua, Merivale, Te Puke, Maketu and Little Waihi.

If you live in these areas, find out how to get a trap here:AA

If you are keen to get going before we reach your suburb, you can order a trap here:

The commitment we ask from you is to keep your trap set and baited at all times and to log your kills online. A pretty sweet deal!

Be part of the movement and help make New Zealand Predator Free by 2050!
